About

Wealth for Women of Color

Founded in 2022, Wealth for Women of Color is a platform dedicated to empowering women of color to achieve financial security and build wealth. Our mission is to bridge the wealth gap and create a more equitable financial future for women of color.

Systemic oppression and marginalization have contributed to a significant wealth gap and knowledge gap for women of color, making it difficult for many to achieve financial security. That’s why we’re committed to providing educational resources, tools, and strategies tailored to the unique challenges faced by women of color.

Wealth for Women of Color was founded by Lissa Prudencio, AFC® after recognizing the need for more voices that can speak to women of color about personal finance.

Our goal is to empower women of color to take action towards building wealth, but we know that grassroots efforts aren’t enough. We aim to advocate for our community and attack the wealth gap from all angles.

As the daughter of Filipino immigrants who embraced the American dream, I was taught how to work hard, but not how to build wealth. My parents’ stories of coming to the United States with $20 in their pockets inspired my work ethic. But their lack of access to financial knowledge beyond the basics trickled down to me.

I spent most of my life playing by the “rules,” keeping my head down. I earned 2 degrees and worked a decade at one of the biggest companies in the world. With good fortune and a lot of trial-and-error, I made my way from living paycheck-to-paycheck with massive debt to a six-figure salary, six-figure net worth, and multiple revenue streams.

But the more money I made, the more I learned the financial world wasn’t built for people like me. Society had conditioned me to accept trading my time for money to make other people wealthy. Society didn’t teach me to acquire assets, use leverage, build multiple streams of income, or invest. Society didn’t expose me to wealth building.

I thought, if wealth brings people financial security, options, access and experiences, why isn’t it accessible to everyone? So I pursued financial education with the specific purpose of sharing that knowledge with women of color. It’s time to claim the wealth we deserve.
