About

Wealth for Women of Color

Founded in 2022, Wealth for Women of Color is a financial education platform dedicated to helping women of color achieve financial security and build lasting wealth.

Our mission is to bridge the wealth gap and create a more equitable financial future by providing culturally relevant education, tools, and strategies.

Systemic oppression and generational marginalization have contributed to both a wealth gap and a knowledge gap — making it harder for many women of color to access the resources they need to thrive financially. That’s why we’re committed to meeting women where they are, with content and guidance tailored to their lived experiences.

Wealth for Women of Color was founded by Lissa Lumutenga, CFP®, AFC®, who saw the urgent need for personal finance education created for women of color, by someone who understands the nuances of their journey.

While we focus on empowering individuals to take action, we know that grassroots efforts alone aren’t enough. We’re here to challenge systems, advocate for equity, and fight the wealth gap from every angle.

Meet Lissa

your money confidante

As the daughter of Filipino immigrants chasing the American dream, I was raised to work hard — but not taught how to build wealth. My parents’ stories of arriving in the U.S. with $20 in their pockets shaped my work ethic, but their limited access to financial knowledge trickled down to me.

I played by the rules: two degrees, a decade at one of the world’s biggest companies. With some good fortune and a lot of trial and error, I went from paycheck-to-paycheck and deep in debt to a six-figure salary, six-figure net worth, and multiple income streams.

But the more I earned, the more I realized the financial system wasn’t designed for people like me. I was taught to trade time for money — not to build wealth, own assets, or invest. If wealth brings freedom, access, and stability, why isn’t it accessible to everyone?

That’s why I created Wealth for Women of Color — to make wealth more inclusive by sharing the tools, knowledge, and confidence needed to claim what we deserve.
